Google's LogoGoogle had a post recently on it’s Webmaster Central Blog and in it’s Youtube to help the Webmaster and larger Internet community understand what their new page speed ranking factor is all about.

Maille Ohye a Developer Programs Tech Lead at the search giant points out some interesting points . These are my notes:

  • Faster loading of a Website means an Increase in Conversions.
  • A slower site has lasting negative effects, including a drop in query volume (aka less visits).
  • Even though page speed is a ranking factor content  and relevancy are still primary.
  • There are 200+ factors in the overall Website ranking algorithm, page speed is just one.
  • You can have a fast site on a small budget.
  • The Performance Golden Rule: 80% – 90% of the end user response time is spent on the front end. So focus there
  • Use WebPageTest.org, Webmaster Tools or the Page Speed add-on to the Firebug plugin for Firefox. These plugins help you diagnose the problem areas of your site and even suggest fixes.
  • Some things that a faster site promotes:

    Conversrions
    Page Views
    Time on Site

  • A faster site also lowers:

    Bounce Rate
    Operating Costs
